We are on the last leg of autumn, soon winter will be upon us. Some of us will stay at home to enjoy the festivities and some of us will try to get away to somewhere warm and nice. Ways to Save Money on Your Winter Break

As summer winds down and autumn rears its head, people are beginning to think about their plans for the festive season - which, for many of us, includes thinking about ways to save money for the holidays! Setting up a budget for your expenses between now and December may seem like a challenge, but there are some simple things everyone can do to save money while still enjoying a fun and inspiring lifestyle as we move towards winter.

1. Prioritize and plan the holiday nights out you anticipate going to, and decide on a reasonable amount to spend on each - then stick to it. Family, friends, work, colleagues, and any groups or clubs you belong to may be planning to have their holiday do's starting in late November and early December, and having all those expenses crop up unexpectedly can put a serious dent in your holiday budget. Start saving now based on what you think you're likely to spend later on.

If you do not want to get out of the country, Experience Day is an interesting and enjoyable way to take your mind away from work and study.

2. Give some thought to the kind of holiday trips you'd like to take, well in advance, and start pricing those trips now. Get a sense for what the 'baseline' cost is for the destinations you have in mind, then start contacting individual hotels and airlines to find out what kinds of offers they may make available. While it may seem like a good idea to book something far ahead of your stay, you can actually find great deals for last minute rooms and tickets depending on where you want to stay and how flexible you are about your travel dates.

3. If your constitution makes booking last minute rooms a too nerve-wracking, think about doing a house swap with friends or relatives as a cheap way to see another country or county. You're both going to be paying your rent or mortgage while on holiday, so why not share your home with someone else and take advantage of a different location while you're at it? If you plan this far enough in advance you can also take advantage of significant train and plane fare discounts.

4. Think about staying somewhere with self-catering accommodation, if and when you do head off on your trip. You can save a lot of money by purchasing your own food and preparing it in your holiday home, and get a sense for local cuisine in foreign countries while you're at it!

5. Don't forget that booking last minute hotel rooms can save you money no matter what time of year it is - keep your eyes peeled!
